Wisconsin Preview

Game 2: November 15, 7:30 pm.

Opponent: Wisconsin Badgers

Location: Omaha, NE

Site: CenturyLink Center

Records: Wisconsin 1-0; CU 1-0

In the biggest non-conference game in the history of the Century Link Center, the Creighton Bluejays will take on the 9th ranked Wisconsin Badgers in a game that will have much national attention. It’s such a big game that Fox is bringing its pregame show to Omaha as well.

Wisconsin returns a veteran line up including the preseason Big Ten player of the year in Nigel Hayes and sharp shooting guard Bronson Koenig. This will be your typical Wisconsin team, they will try and control the tempo and will not beat themselves.

This is something that Creighton must not do: beat themselves. The Jays self-destructed late in the game against UMKC on Friday, turning it over 17 times. The good news is Khyri Thomas continues to look like a different player than the way he played in the conference season last year. Thomas had a strong game scoring 16 points and playing his usual tough defense.

What you need to know: If the Jays play like they did in the first 28 minutes of the UMKC game things will go just fine. But that may be asking a lot in facing the highly ranked Badgers. Wisconsin did get off to a slow last year, going 9-9 in their first 18 games before catching fire and making a strong run in March. Look for Marcus Foster to have many more touches than he did Friday as the Jays may have to put their offense on his shoulders.

What you don’t need to know: In looking into the University of Wisconsin I discovered a couple of odd and shall I say disturbing facts about this school. We all know it’s a very liberal university and students there are known to consume large amounts of alcohol (ok I know-what school doesn’t).

But here are the two things that worry me about our friends from Madison. First, they apparently have a guy that rides around on a bike and plays his piccolo. He looks like a homeless man who wears an orange jumpsuit, similar to a prison uniform. I guess the question I would have is, why?

Secondly, they have a statue of Abe Lincoln on campus (again another, why? would be good here), so students go by this statue and rub his foot for good luck. Strange I know. I’m not sure but maybe the Badger faithful thinks Abe Lincoln is a rabbit.
