Jays looking at Texas point guard

With the two scholarships the Jays have in the 2016 recruiting class, they are looking to improve their team at any position as they continue to look for Big East talent. One of the latest players the Jays are looking at is 5-foot-10 point guard Carsen Edwards. Edwards, from Humble, Texas, has the game to play in any conference in the nation. He's drawing interest from Creighton, Texas, Baylor, Tulsa, Rice, Saint Louis and many other schools looking for a point guard, and he's already been on the campuses of Baylor and Texas to take in a game.
"I'm looking for a school that I can get better at, where I can play college basketball at the highest level and that can help me get to the next level," Edwards said. "A good education is very important to me, and I hope to make a decision before my senior season."

Edwards is the total package as a point guard and is having a very good junior season so far. His Atascocita Eagles are currently 22-1 on the season, ranked No. 2 in the state of Texas and No. 15 in the entire country. That record couldn't have been achieved without Edwards, who is averaging 23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals per game.
"I am a really aggressive point guard," he said. "I love to get out and run and get my teammates involved. I can score by getting to the basket or by shooting jump shots. Plus, I like to be really physical defensively. I try to model my game after my two favorite NBA players -- Damian Lillard and Russell Westbrook. I feel like to be ready for the next level, I really need to work on my execution of the pick and roll."
The Jays have obviously had success in signing guys from the state of Texas in the last few years since assistant Steve Lutz came aboard, and Edwards is one of the many players from Texas they are after in the 2016 recruiting class. Edwards is well aware of Creighton's Texas presence -- current Bluejay Leon Gilmore III played not too far away from Edwards. That's not all he knows about Creighton University, either.
"I know Creighton is a basketball school that plays in a very tough conference," he said. "I really like the way they play. They get up and down the court and shoot a lot of threes."
Be on the lookout for Creighton's name to pop up in association with a lot of players in the 2016 recruiting class. Also, expect Creighton to have a lot of competition for the services of Edwards as his scholarship offers start to pile up throughout his excellent junior season.
