Jays getting visit from Texas scorer

Scorers in college basketball are always at a premium, and that has Creighton once again dipping into the state of Texas looking at someone who fits exactly that description. The scorer is 2016 3-star shooting guard Armoni Brooks. Brooks is a 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard out of Round Rock, Texas, who averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds last year as a high school junior.
"I had a pretty good summer," Brooks said. "I worked hard and want to have a big senior season. I wasn't getting as many looks from bigger schools, but then I had a really good showing in the Great American Shootout, and my recruitment kind of took off."

Brooks currently holds an offer from Creighton, which sits on his top-five list with Houston, Kansas State, Nebraska and Tulsa. He has taken unofficial visits to San Diego State and Texas State, and he has official visits lined up to Houston on Sept. 5, Kansas State Oct. 10, and Creighton on Sept. 25.
"I like that Creighton is a private school and in a very good basketball conference," Brooks said. "They have a great fan base and Coach Mac is a really good coach."
Creighton will need to replace senior guard James Milliken and his scoring ability. Brooks could be a big step in that direction.
"I'm a scorer, but I'm also a good team player," Brooks said. "I can shoot the 3, I've got a good mid-range shot, I can play inside or outside and I play unselfish basketball. I like to make the extra pass."
Brooks plans on taking his time and a few visits, but he would like to make his decision in early November. When he picks a school, there are a couple of different things he's going to be focusing on.
"I'm looking for an early opportunity to play, and I plan on earning my minutes," he said. "I also want to be at a school that has great fan support and plays in a good conference."
Creighton will have Brooks on campus Sept. 25 along with 3-star point guard Justice Kithcart of Lynchburg, Va. That could end up being a very big weekend for the future of Creighton basketball.
