Jays after another Texas guard

There are two things pretty consistent when it comes to Creighton's recruiting. First, just about every potential recruit I talk to mentions Doug McDermott. Second, the Jays are always on the inside with a lot of high school players from Texas. Right now the Jays have their sights set on 6-foot-5 small forward Kameron McGusty. McGusty, a 2016 recruit from Katy, Texas, plays for Seven Lakes High School. When I talked to him, his team was just 12-11, but McGusty was averaging 20 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds per game.
Other than Creighton, other schools recruiting McGusty the hardest include USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas State, Houston and Tulsa He has already taken unofficial visits to Baylor, Houston and Rice. He has yet to visit Creighton yet, but he told me that he plans on it.

"One of my high school coaches is from Nebraska, so he's told me a lot about Creighton," McGusty said. "I know Omaha is a college town and they have a lot of fans. And of course I know about Doug McDermott and what he did last season."
Even though McGusty is 6-foot-5, he plays a lot of point guard for his high school team. At the next level. he will move off of that spot and play more of the 2 or the 3, but those ball-handling point guard skills will certainly come in handy at any position.
"I really like to get to the basket, take pull-up jump shots or find the open man on offense," he said. "But I like to make the dirty plays, be diving on the floor for loose balls and guard the other team's best player. I think my off-ball defense could get better and my jump shot is pretty good. However, no one has a perfect jump shot, so I am always looking to improve it. I think to succeed at the next level I need to work a little on my leadership and just be more vocal."
McGusty is described as a good facilitator, athletic and just an overall playmaker. So it's no wonder that he has interests from so many high-major schools. He'd like to make a decision on which school to attend by this fall.
"When it comes to picking a school, education obviously comes first," he continued. "I want to be on a nice campus, with good people around me in a winning program. I'm looking for a good head coach that not only makes me a better player, but also a better person."
Odds are that McGusty ends up at a high-major school because of his combination of skill and athleticism. It'll be interesting to see how Creighton matches up in his eyes when he visits the school. Will the Jays be able to pluck another recruit out of the Lone Star State?
