Fall Sports Preview

On Friday night Creighton women's volleyball held their annual Blue and White scrimmage at D.J. Sokol Arena. After losing the first set the White team won three straight sets to take the match by scores of 17-25, 25-13, 25-21 and 26-24.

Everyone on the 2016 roster saw time with many switching sides during each set. Teams also included Lizzy Stivers who graduated during the past school year and volunteer assistant coach Micah Rhodes helping out during the match.

Head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth used several combinations during the four sets in an effort to get ready for next weekends opener at the Iowa State Challenge in Ames, Iowa.

"We're still deciding on a few different position battles, but we liked what we saw tonight," said Booth.

Creighton opens regular-season play with former Missouri Valley Conference rival Wichita State onSaturday, August 27 at 4 pm.

Over on the pitch at Morrison Stadium, the Creighton men's soccer team dropped their final exhibition game with a 3-1 result against Wisconsin on Saturday night. Wisconsin scored three unanswered goals to take control of the game before Creighton finally got on the board in the 87th minute. The Jays had previously beaten Missouri State in their other exhibition game 2-0 on Wednesday.

The CU men get their regular season underway this upcoming Friday on the road against Big Ten foe Rutgers on Friday August 26. Bluejay fans can get their first glimpse of the team in regular season play on Monday August 29 against the University of San Francisco.

Meanwhile the Creighton women's soccer team kicked off their regular season with two home matches. And after the first weekend its so far so good as the Jays are still undefeated.

Head coach Ross Paule's squad opened the season by besting Iowa 5-3 in a high scoring affair. Freshman Callie Hawkins tallied two goals to give the Jays an opening night win at Morrison Stadium. And then on Sunday the Jays played a 1-1 draw against UMKC.

Senior Lauren Sullivan knotted the game in the 61st minute to salvage the tie for Creighton. Creighton returns to action this Friday against cross town rival Omaha. The match is on the Mavericks' pitch beginning at 8 pm.
