The Creighton Bluejay baseball team completed their 5th straight weekend sweep by downing Stony Brook in a doubleheader Sunday. The Jays took care of the Seawolves with identical 4-0 scores on both sides of the double dip. Saturday’s game by was cancelled due to cold weather and rain so the doubleheader was needed on Sunday, with the second game going only seven innings.

The Jays did not allow a run in the 16 innings played Sunday. In the first game, Jeff Albrecht threw five strong innings allowing only three hits. Albrecht got the start over normal Saturday starter Matt Warren. Warren was held out because of a minor injury but should be ready to go next weekend when the Jays take on Jacksonville at TD Ameritrade Park.

In the second game Sunday, starter Keith Rogalla had his second straight strong outing. Rogalla allowed just three hits in five innings while striking out five. The Jays got several of their runs via the wild pitch. In the first inning Danny Woodrow singled, stole second and then scored on a pair of wild pitches. In the third, Ryan Fitzgerald started the action with a triple. Nicky Lopez then was hit by a pitch, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, with Fitzgerald scoring the Jays second run. Reagan Fowler then doubled scoring Lopez, Fowler then advanced to third and scored on another wild pitch.

While things were easy on Sunday, Friday night’s series opener was a nail biter. The Jays fell behind 4-0 as Stony Brook took the lead by scoring four runs in the fourth with help from two walks, an error and a wild pitch. The usually reliable Rollie Lacy settled down and allowed only four hits over six innings. CU got back in the game with single runs in the fourth and sixth before taking the lead in the bottom of the eighth. The Jays scored three runs on two singles, two errors and a passed ball. Kevin Connolly plated the winning run with a single to left with two outs, scoring Brett Murray.

The Jays are now 16-4, having won 16 of their last 17. Tuesday night they CU will travel to Lincoln to face intra state rival Nebraska, in the first of their annual three game slate. The game is at 6:35 pm and can be seen on BTN. At this time no starter has been named for CU.
