Creighton received the commitment from South Dakota State transfer Baylor Scheierman. The 6’6” guard from Aurora, Nebraska finished his junior year by leading the Jackrabbits to a Summit League regular season championship, Summit League tournament championship, and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Scheierman averaged 16.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, and 4.5 apg this past season with 50.8%/46.9%/80.2% shooting splits. The Summit League Player of the Year declared for the 2022 NBA Draft back on March 24th and has been going through the pre-draft process in Atlanta, GA.

Scheierman announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on April 25th and it was to nobody’s surprise that the list of teams to reach out to Scheierman seemed never-ending. Scheierman cut his list to ten schools just a couple days later. Arkansas, Clemson, Creighton, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Texas, and Wake Forest made the top 10. Scheierman received personal visits while down in Atlanta from every school in his list of ten besides Kansas and Kentucky.

Scheierman’s list was further cut to a top 5 consisting of Arkansas, Clemson, Creighton, Duke, and Nebraska before ultimately choosing the Jays. Creighton’s addition of Baylor Scheierman gives the Jays the perfect fit. The Jays get an upperclassman who is an absolute playmaker. Creighton’s offense and 3-point shooting struggled for large stretches of the 2021-22 season. Scheierman’s 46.9% from 3 on over 5 attempts per game and greater than 2:1 assist to turnover ratio should be the perfect remedy.

Creighton’s lofty offseason expectations have just been taken to another level with the addition of Baylor Scheierman. Many national prognosticators have bumped the Jays in their preseason rankings from top 15, top 20 range to top 5 talk.
