4-Star Fredrick King Commits to Creighton

The Creighton Bluejays added a huge piece to their roster for next season by gaining a commitment from Fredrick King. Creighton had been recruiting the 4-star center when King announced his commitment to Louisville before the early signing period. King then requested a release from his National Letter of Intent to Louisville in March due to Chris Mack stepping down as head coach of the Cardinals. Following King’s release from Louisville, Creighton’s staff was there to recruit King. Looking for added depth in the Jay’s front court next season, the 6’10 King became a priority recruit for Creighton’s staff.

Coach Alan Huss and Coach Ryan Miller visited Fredrick King in his native Bahamas in early April. The visit from the Creighton staff and their prior relationship with King was enough to convince him to visit Omaha April 19th – 21st. King, who attended school at the NBA Academy Latin America located in Mexico, also took visits to Georgia Tech, BYU, and Utah this April.

Fredrick King’s commitment to Creighton fills a huge need for the Bluejays next season and beyond. Not only do the Jays add front court depth next season with backup center, KeyShawn Feazell exhausting his final year of college eligibility last year in a Creighton uniform and starting center Ryan Kalkbrenner coming off a knee injury suffered in the NCAA Tournament. But the Jays also get a high upside, young player to develop over the coming years.

ESPN’s NBA Draft analyst and co-owner of DraftExpress.com, Jonathan Givony had the following scouting report on King:

“He’s a mobile big man who is quick off his feet and plays with an exceptionally high intensity level, while possessing intriguing skill, poise, and maturity.”

“Everything. It was overall amazing. It felt like I had a bond with the coaching staff and players. Everyone there welcomed me the best,” King said was asked about his visit to Creighton.

“I’m looking forward to becoming a better player and wanting to help the team win a National Championship.”

King’s stepfather, Carson Lundy echoed similar sentiments.

“Fredrick just felt most comfortable when we were on the visit at Creighton. He felt comfortable in his interactions with the players and coaches.”

The addition of King fills an important need on a roster with already lofty expectations heading into the 2022-23 season.
